Membership is open to Scots and
non-Scots alike. Anyone born in Scotland
or having one or more Scottish parents
is eligible for Ordinary membership.
Everyone else is eligible for Associate
membership.
There’s really very little difference
between the two – though only Ordinary
members are allowed to sit on the
Executive Committee. The membership fee
of BD5 per person remains the same.
In addition to the above categories the
Executive committee has the authority to
confer both Life and Honorary Life
memberships. These are generally awarded
only very occasionally, to long standing
members who have served the society in a
committee position or other role for
many years.
Our membership year runs from May to
April and our first official event each
year is the AGM, which takes place in
May. The accounts for the previous year
are reviewed and approved and a new
committee is elected. Committee
positions carry a 12 month tenure with
the exception of the Chieftain’s
position which is a 2 year appointment.
The Membership Period is open from May 1
each year until the end of October. The
Chieftains Cocktail Party, which is held
in early October, is regarded as the
final rallying call for members and
anyone who has not paid their annual
subscriptions by the end of October must
wait until the following May to rejoin.
